Start with the season
For the journeys in this collection, winter brings Northeast China's frozen forests, ice architecture and snow-covered villages. The nine-day Lindu Express runs from Harbin toward Mohe and the Arctic Village. Aurora sightings depend on natural conditions and cannot be guaranteed.
Summer and autumn bring a different palette in Xinjiang: the old city of Kashgar, alpine lakes, grasslands and the Pamir Plateau. Choose the route before the room
A map shows the shape of a trip, but the itinerary explains how it feels. Check where you start and finish, how much time is spent aboard, and how the rail sections connect to excursions. These journeys can include hotel nights; do not assume you return to your cabin every night.
On Lindu Express, warm social spaces are part of a winter holiday: dining cars, a jazz bar, a tea room and a library. The children's playroom and suite layout may appeal to families. On the longer Xinjiang routes, privacy, sleeping arrangements and space to relax deserve careful comparison. The two Panda Express products have different compartments and facilities.
Plan for the people travelling
