Frequently Asked Questions

Practical answers for choosing, booking and preparing for your rail journey.

Choosing your journey

Start with the region, the train and the room that suit the people travelling.

The journeys presented here span Xinjiang and Northeast China, with different regions, stops and seasons. Start with the places you want to see, then compare the exact journey.

Compare destinations

Compare the route, sleeping arrangement, bathroom and service language. New Oriental, Chengdu and Lindu offer private-bathroom rooms; Shifang has shared four-berth compartments. The right choice depends on your party and travel style.

Find your travel style

No. Facilities vary by train and category. Shifang uses shared toilets, washstands and showers; Lindu and Chengdu have private bathrooms. Compare the exact room before booking.

Onboard arrangements

Compare sleeping, dining, language and practical support before choosing a departure.

Not necessarily. These journeys can combine train nights with hotels or other overnight accommodation. The day-by-day itinerary identifies where you sleep and how rail sections connect with road excursions.

Understand life onboard

Service language varies by journey and departure. Confirm any language support you need before booking. The Snow Country Train operates in Chinese only; its guides, train butlers and onboard staff do not operate in English. The language of this page does not determine the service language.

Support is train- and itinerary-specific. Shifang’s updated itinerary describes qualified health ambassadors accompanying guests on the train; Lindu lists an infirmary. Boarding, cabin access and assistance during excursions need their own confirmation.

Read guest care and accessibility

Meals may take place in the dining car, hotels and local restaurants. Chengdu’s Golden Panda Restaurant features Sichuan flavours; Shifang’s route includes regional meals ashore. Your itinerary lists the included meals.
